Overall Game Concept and Description

-Shapeshifters is like a combination of Tetris and the classic TI-83 calculator game Fall down.
Except we gave the game a universal twist that definitely separates it from those categories.
     - The game works with a lot of unique physical properties such as energy consumption, energy drain, and transformations.

So what's the basic concept?
The user starts out as an electric energy ball moving up, down, and around an environment. The ball is constantly losing energy and must regain it through items and achievements found throughout the stage. As you see in our demo, the ball is able to shapeshift through holes in the walls shaped like polygons (ex square, circle, triangle). These walls, if touched, will drain energy from the ball. If the user runs out of energy the game is over. We will talk more about the energy and shape shifting concept later.

Where is the fun in this?
The fun is definitely found in the challenge of the game. As you notice the ball can "shapeshift" into particular geometric shapes which will pass through the holes in the wall. You can sort of view this as a concept from the classic Tetris, except we are not exactly fitting pieces on top of each other. This action also requires a small amount of energy to perform after each pass.  Here's an overview of the game play concepts we are currently working on.

CONCEPT GAMEPLAY

---There will be transparent walls with energy flowing through them (this will enable you to see objects in the next pass).
---There will be multiple polygons popping up on each wall allowing the user to pick which hole they wish to pass through.

---There will be power -us in the game that increase life (or energy).
---As, the user gets higher in level the speed of the oncoming walls increase and the environment becomes more difficult.
---The user will have to avoid enemies and obstacles such as fans, magnetic, etc.

SHAPESHIFTING

As of right now the ball can only shape shift into three different geometric shapes (cube, sphere, and  a pyramid) however we have intentions of implementing other forms.
As mentioned before shapeshifting requires a small amount of energy deducted from the balls life.

Why it is needed
   - to make successful passes through the holes without touching walls
   - to avoid obstacles and do other gaming tasks (more on this later =D)
   - to kill enemies. For example, the shape shifting into a pyramid sends a plasma array into three rotating directions.
-the cube and sphere will have a unique transformation features of their own.

ENERGY

The energy concept in shapeshifters is a major gaming constraint. Well, besides trying to avoid getting crushed by the oncoming walls.
There are many reasons why energy is important. Of these here are a few

  -energy is required for life
  -energy is required for transformations

-maximized energy is required for speed boosts

HOW DO I ACQUIRE ENERGY?

The following is the ways in which you gain energy

   -passing successfully through energy barriers
   -items found throughout the game

   -killing certain enemies
   -etc.

HOW DO I LOSE ENERGY?

   - transformations
   - touching energy barriers
   - enemy energy drain
   - magnetic traps
